Once you arrive, you will know the Hughes House Bed and Breakfast,
Hammond, Louisiana, is a special place. Built at the turn of the century by
the grandson of Peter Hammond, Jefferson Davis Hughes, the house was designed
to accommodate his extensive family. The Hughes home remained in their family
until recently. Hughes' involvement in the lumber business allowed him to use
the finest wood and utilize the talents of area craftsmen in building the
house. Three-quarter inch tongue-and-groove is used throughout the building,
with triple flooring in some areas.
Upon your arrival, you will be shown to your room to settle while your
hostess will ready your beverage of choice, tea or wine, to be served
Southern-style on the veranda. One look down the oak-lined streets and you
will be reminded of the time when life was gentle and all neighbors
knew each others' names.
A comfortable but elegant retreat, whether you are visiting family,
friends, attending a business function, or just escaping from everyday life, can
be found at this fine bed and breakfast. The Hughes House Bed and
Breakfast is located in the Adams - Lily historic neighborhood, which
is adorned with magnificent oak trees. The neighborhood is a great place to
walk, jog, or bicycle. Situated adjacent to historic downtown Hammond
the Hughes House Bed and Breakfast is near coffee shops, a public
library, numerous fine restaurants, cafes, a spa, banks, an ice cream
parlor, nightclubs- including a jazz club,
the post office, a book store, and boutique shopping; all just a casual
stroll away.
